I was born in Upstate New York, spent much of my childhood in eastern Ohio, and all of my adulthood in Minnesota. I love to travel but never seem to get to do it as much as I would like. I currently still live in Minnesota with my husband, child, dog, cat, and fish.
I’m an author of short and novel length fiction which focuses primarily on the genres of Fantasy, Science Fiction, Contemporary Fantasy, and Speculative Fiction. Much of my writing is a love letter to humans while also recognizing and exploring our often fatal flaws. As of right now all of my fiction is standalone, but I dream of someday trying my hand at a series.
I’m also an unabashed geek with nerd tendencies. I am a co-owner and operator of the Fallout Shelter Arcade, one of the only remaining Virtual World Entertainment simulator cockpit sites (currently on hiatus - but will be back). I play D&D, Shadowrun, Cyberpunk, and the occasional board or card game with friends as often as time allows.
Cooking is a long time passion of mine. If you have been by my house, you know my love of feeding people. I experiment in the kitchen as often as I am able to. This now includes trying to write my own recipes, check the “What I’m Cooking” section for my current experiment or recipe I am loving.
Crafting is a stress reliever for me. If I’m ever working on anything interesting I’ll post it in the “What I’m Making” section.
Thanks for stopping by and joining me on my writing journey.
I was still in elementary school when I wrote my first book. I had everyone in my family draw a picture. Then I took all those pages and wrote a story to connect them all.
In seventh grade I had an English teacher who had us all write stories. I wrote one about Merlin taking a young girl back in time to save the world. He loved it so much he read it to the class. I will be forever grateful to Mr. Klein for showing me that people not related to me might appreciate my writing.
Despite all of this I never thought of myself as a writer or author and I thought my path would be to become a veterinarian. My freshman year of college dispelled that myth and I started thinking about writing more seriously.
I finished my first novel on December 31, 1999. It's in a box somewhere in my house still, and it is better that way. I decided to start reading books about writing and eventually went back to college to get a Bachelor of Arts degree in English: Creative Writing from Hamline University in 2007.
My first non-college journal writing credit came in 2013 with the publication of my short story "Outside" in THE END OF THE WORLD as we know it from the small independent publisher Das Krakenhaus
I continue to hone my craft and write and am beginning to seek out publication opportunities again.
I love the idea that you can expand how people think about topics through fiction. I based most of a Master's Degree on that topic.
My fiction can be dark, funny, adventurous, sometimes all of the above in the same piece. But through it all my love of what humans are capable of and a recognition of our fatal flaws is always there.
